The powerhouse museum is a part of the museum of applied arts and sciences in the beautiful city of Sydney. The other organist ions to be linked to this is the Sydney observatory.

Although the name powerhouse, the museum has a collection of technological innovation in arts , communications , science, transport , costume , furniture , media , computer s, space technology and steam engines.

The museum has been around for about one hundred and twenty five years and has about four hundred thousand articles..

The location used to be an electric tram power station in a suburb of Ultimo.. this was constructed in about the early nineteenth century.

The Sydney international museums has a collection of items . The museum was initially made in buildings known as the garden palace until a fire destroyed it before it could be used.

It later moved to share location with the Sydney morgue.

The museum has the oldest steam engine in operation . Bolton and Watt built this steam engine and it was later acquired from whitbread’s brewery.

The site is been listed as an historical mechanical engineering land mark by the American society of mechanical engineers.

The first steam locomotive to operate in new south wales built by Robert Stephenson. This was called locomotive number one.

One of the most famous possessions by the museum is the Strasbourg clock model. This was built in 1887 by a twenty five year old Sydney watchmakers called Richard smith. Inspired by the Strasbourg astronomical clock inside Strasbourg cathedral.

Richard smith didn’t actually get to see the original piece but he studied it from a design on the pamphlet which describes its time and astronomical functions.

This place shows how social cultural economical and technological changes have influenced the decorative arts have influenced design over the stretch of three hundred years. And many designers , innovators, manufacturers and entrepreneurs have collaborated in making innovative objects.

Permanent exhibitions :

This place exhibits about eight hundred objects by international and Australian designers which cover many topics in art , history , cultures from the history till about the present time.

Cyberworlds:

The latest technological advances in computers and also a descriptive study on the first computers to be made.

Space:

This place is about the final frontier and all the discoveries that man has made in this regard. It has the cockpit of a life size space shuttle . It also has a lot of information on the Australian satellites . The transport exhibit is an underground temporary exhibit which has about two entrances.

Experimentation:

The science museum is a treat amongst kids and adults alike , because of its interactive environment.

Magnetism , light , motion , electricity and the senses are a few types of concepts that the museum has kept at being more interactive .

There is also a machine that explains how chocolate is made.

This machine lets you taste the chocolate being made at different stages . The whole front of a fire truck is also here. This place measures the pedal power which is used to blow the born and the lights of the truck.

A hand powered railway which used a magnetic system to provide electric current to the track.

The plasma ball , has glowing electricity in it. And the design of the glowing ball changes.

Eco logic:

This is an exhibit which is in sync with building a better future for mankind.

This exhibit focuses on the factors affecting the environment. How human beings affect the natural order and how technology can be used to stop this from happening.
