All that You Dream for a Holiday is what Brisbane Offers
Queensland | Write a review | February 22, 2010Brisbane, the third largest city of Australia, is situated between the subtropics of South-East Queensland. Regarded as Australia’s northern capital on the Pacific Frame, it has been an important destination of international events such as the 1982 Commonwealth Games and Expo 88. Today, it is a vibrant city with many interesting areas such as busy streets and parks along the river. Its location between the twisting turns of the river facilitates discovery on foot.
Brisbane Australia Tourist Attractions
- South Bank Parkland:
It was precisely here that the WorldExpo’88 was held. Famous among the locals and visitors, it offers a wonderful riverside walk, an artificial lagoon, restaurants, shops, and arts and crafts market. All the year around, festivals and firework displays commonly take place. Herein, do visit the Queensland Museum exhibiting whales, dinosaurs, snakes, crocodiles, and much more; the Queensland Art Gallery, the Gallery of Modern Art, the Queensland Maritime Museum, and the Queensland Performing Arts Center with theatre and music. - Newstead House:
This is the most ancient mansion of the cosmopolitan city dating back to 1846. Located atop a rich park dominating the Brisbane River, this is the wonderful house wherein you can have some good memories of Brisbane history. The house is built in the pattern of the Victorian era where manicured gardens and a wide winding veranda give it an awesome look. - Story Bridge:
This is a famous landmark and is one of the superb bridges in Australia. For tourists, climbing the bridge is exciting. The cantilever bridge built as a public program at the time of the Great Depression connecting the Fortitude Valley to Kangaroo Point is where the River Festival is held and is marvelously lit at night.
- Brisbane City Hall:
This was the most costly building in the continent prior to the Sydney Opera House and the tallest one in Brisbane before skyscrapers came up over the CBD. This is the home of the Mayor of Brisbane’s offices, the Council’s chambers, and the Museum of Brisbane History. Catch the old elevator to be atop the clock tower for having a bird’s eye vista of the CBD. Do also come at night to view its magnificent lit charm.
- The Brisbane Botanic Gardens at Mt Coot-tha:
Located at 7 km from the city center, these are the Queensland’s leading subtropical gardens offering native plants, bonsais, cacti, ferns, fragrant plants and herbs, and rainforest plants as well as a tropical dome, a lagoon, and bamboo grove. Do not miss to visit the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium on its grounds. - City Botanic Gardens:
These are the original gardens of the city, but are not as magnificent as those in Mt Coot-tha. However, the gardens are beside the river and just a few steps away from the CBD making them a good spot for a pleasant walk in the city center. Alternatively, you can hire a bike in the afternoon using a two wheeler. - St John’s Cathedral:
This is an amazing neo-gothic Anglican monument. Marvel at its some of the most spectacular characteristics such as the sculpted possums on the organ screen, the 17 m high ceiling that is only one of its kind to be fully stone-vaulted in the southern hemisphere, and the hand-stitched 400 pew cushions made by a team in canvas that took 10 years for its completion. - Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary:

Set in 1927, this is the largest koala sanctuary on the planet offering around 130 adult koalas and joeys (baby koalas), two keeper shows daily, dingoes, roos, wombats, snakes, and other local wildlife. Look out for the chance to pursue the footsteps of Pope John Paul II and Janet Jackson. - Australian Woolshed:
This is the attraction that has won many awards. It is a relaxing outback sheep station in the suburbs where you can feed lambs, milk a cow, and see the Native Australian Animals. - Gold Coast:
Drive for an hour towards south of Brisbane to reach this energetic coast lush with beautiful beaches and shopping. Also, discover the fantastic theme parks – Dreamworld, Movie World, Sea World, and Wet ‘n Wild. - Sunshine Coast:
Located at an hour in north, this is where you can visit the Australia Zoo that is educational and entertaining with Crocodile Hunter, alligators, koalas, kangaroos, dingoes, foxes, otters, and big land tortoises. Besides this, explore fabulous beaches, National Parks, Ginger Factory, the Big Pineapple, and Underwater World at Mooloolaba. - The South Bank Village Markets:
Here, you will find some beautiful arts and crafts at every Friday night: 5 pm – 10 pm, Saturdays: 11 am – 5 pm, and Sundays: 9:00 am – 5 pm. - Brisbane River:
On its banks, there are parks, leisure boardwalks, picnic spots, play areas, walking and bike trails, restaurants, cafes, and markets pontoons. Take an exciting CityCat ferry to discover the city and river efficiently and quickly. Other recreational cruise alternatives are the River Queen paddle wheelers and the Mirimar Wildlife Cruise to the Koala Sanctuary.
