“Make me no gold that shines in the light; make me no diamond with carvings beautiful and bright; oh Lord, make me a fragrant flower, so I bid my living a good end in Your sight”. This is a good sum up of words to show that flowers are the best creatures of God. They scent the world with their fragrance and never harm their beholders, and depart life without a last wish. I love flowers. So do you? Yeah? Then, I think I have sonmethng in store for you which you can make use of when you make a trip to the largest island of the world, in South Pacific region, the Australia. The continent of Australia celebrates a festival of flowers every year – Floriade.

If your love is tulips and bulbs, the ones for which Holland is famous, then you are the perfect guest for Australia’s festival of flowers, held in Canberra, called Floriade. This is the largest festival of flowers, held in southern hemisphere and it has on display, over a million of tulips, bulbs and other annual flowers. These gardens are set with a scenic backdrop of Brindabella Mountains, on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin, along with the National Gallery, the National Library, the Parliament House and the High Court in close vicinity. The whole area looks like a picture with majestic colors and creative designs. Floriade has celebrated its 20th year and the gardens are created around different themes every year. The Floriade of 2007 was celebrated to honor the Aussie culture, which was never done before. The flowerbeds had inspired by the Aussie art, myths and legends, around which the visitors were allowed to stroll with good Aussie food and much more of the Aussie culture. The next was the symbol of the event displaying a version of the Australian coat of arms. The Kangaroo played wearing board shorts and cooked sausages and the emu dressed in a hat, of the cork shape, and thongs. The flowerbeds of Floriade showcase Australian brands and inventions, famous people of Australia, great landscapes and the sports culture and history of Australia.

The blooming flowers bring to life, the rolling waves, golden sand and the burning sun of the Lake Burley Griffin, and the red, ochre and white bright blossoms reflect the culture of the sun burnt country. Australia is known as the birth country of many inventions of the world, and hence celebrations of the Hills Hoist and the Victa lawnmower are much-loved. The Australian tucker is much famous for its finishing and hence Floriade celebrations take place in the Aussie Tucker garden bed with Aussie beer and meat pies and fine wine and the cheese. You will also find Aussie Iced Vo Vo biscuits with a large pavlova in the flower bed.

The festival of Floriade starts from the 15th of Sept. to 14th of Oct., and hence, goes on for a whole month. It has something for everyone in store. As well as the highlight of the festival, the bright delighting flowers and the varied culture themes, there are also great music concerts for the visitors, wherein roving entertainers delight the minds of children and the big ones. Children can ease out themselves with games and fun music at the Children’s Village, held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily during the festival.
