The city is inhabited with folks belonging to all kinds of ethnic groups. After being damaged completely by the Tracy cyclone in 1974, it has greatly emerged into contemporary vibrant town.
Many travelers come to Darwin not only to explore its historic and natural wonders, but also to take up expeditions to the nearby nature parks, such as the Litchfield National Park, the Katherine Gorge, and Kakadu National Park. Talking about the highlights in the cities, there is a long list including museums, harbor, and beaches whose visit needs some couple of days.

- Territory Wildlife Park:

This park depicts the relation between the local plants and animals through the displays of Aquarium, Kangaroos, Birds of Prey and Nocturnal House. - Darwin Crocodile Farm:
Located on the Stuart Highway at a distance of 40 km, this is the house of nearly 10,000 crocodiles. Here, one can notice crocodiles of all sizes varying from fledging to huge males of more than 5 m in length. - Aquascene:
This is a must to visit place to see a natural wonder. This site is the popular fish feeding land where at high tide, a myriad of fishes come ahead from within the sea to get fed. If it is getting hard to believe this, do come and see yourself. Its really something not worth missing. - East Point Military Museum:
This is the first museum in the city that houses videos, many photographs, artillery and armored vehicles, firearms, aviation, navy items, and army displays. - East Point Sea:
This is a great place to view the sunset and to picnic with friends and family. Here, you might even spot some of the wallabies if you are lucky. - Batchelor Butterfly Farm:

This is the only farm of butterflies in the Northern Territory located in the mid of Bathchelor. Do visit the first butterfly sanctuary of the Northern Territory to explore the beautiful exhibits of flora and alluring butterflies. - Australian Aviation Heritage Centre:
This is the place where you can find World War II’s Spitfire and the huge B52 along with an imposing displays of aircraft indicating the NT’s ancient association with aviation. - Australian Pearling Exhibition:
This offers an excellent exhibition of static and audio visual displays that provides you with an insight regarding the world of pearls, its history, and future. Its timings are daily 10.00 to 17.00. - Indo Pacific Marine:
This is a distinctly surviving coral reef ecosystem where you are educated with fully guided descriptions or can go on a night tour. It is open from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. - Crocodylus Park:
This is the home of a unique wildlife open daily from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Main feeding and tours operate at 10:00am, 12 noon, 2:00pm and 3:30pm. There are also other activities daily. - WWII Oil Storage Tunnels:

Do not miss this underground excursion of five WWII oil storage tunnels. They were purposely built underground, as many of them on the ground were damaged by the Japanese. Timings are: dry season – 09:00 to 17:00, wet season – Tuesday to Friday (10:00 to 14:00) and Saturday and Sunday (10:00 to 16:00). It remains closed in December and February. - Mindil Beach:
Come here either on Thursday or Sunday night between April to November where you are entertained with crafts and cultural activities. This is the famous site to watch the sunset. However, beware of the jelly fish between October and May. - Botanical Gardens:
Located on the Gardners Road near the Mindil Beach, this shady land is full of verdant vegetation and exotic flora and fauna. The timings are Monday to Friday – 08:00 to 16:00, Saturday and Sunday – 08:30 to 16:00. - Berry Springs:
Located at an hour from the city, this is a good place to view the local wildlife. The Territory wildlife park along with the springs is the major draw. In the dry season, you can swim in the springs. - Casuarina Square:

If you like shopping, this place, usually a large mall, is exactly for you offering a variety of items. You can reach here by taking a free shuttle from a motel/hotel that leaves every hour and can even bring you back after shopping. - Kakadu National Park:
Enlisted as a World Heritage area, this park covers 8,000 square miles owned by the Australian Aboriginals rented to the Government. Sprinkled with varied topography as well as flora and fauna, there are 75 reptile species, 60 mammal types, 1,200 plant kinds, and 10,000 insect species. Main highlights here are the Twin Falls, Nourlangie Rock, Gunlom Water Hole, and Yellow Water. Be a part of a guided tour and come here via road after covering 153 km. - Jim Jim Falls (Twin Falls):

Located in Kakadu, this is a prime gorge destination that is accessible by a 1 km walk via the rainforest that ends at the deep pool ringed by towering cliffs. At the falls, you can find crystalline sandy beaches and thick forest. - Litchfield National Park:
Located 85 miles south of the city, this is a popular recreational destination. You can swim in its deep water pools free of crocodiles or can simply marvel at the Florence Falls. Hunt for the mammoth termite heaps, as other visitors usually do. Drive from Darwin or take up a guided tour to reach here. The Lost City is the mysterious attraction here that is an array of stark sandstone towers as if they were once the home of a very old civilization. Open daily, it is perhaps closed between November and April. - Katherine:
This is beautiful tourist destination located at a distance of 185 miles south of the city. Located on the banks of the Katherine River, it is a small town that was the home of the Aboriginals for thousands of years. Major attractions here are the Katherine Gorge and the Cutta Cutta Caves. The gorge is at a distance of 30 miles from the town, in fact, it is an array of gorges flowing via red sandstone cliffs that are known to be 1 billion years old. Explore this area via boat to get the maximum out of it.
