Air and boat Adventure with the ever Unique Fiji Island
Fiji | Write a review | September 28, 2010It would probably seem like a rare combination of something like a survivor series or even Gilligan’s island. This place in fact is a social and environmental experiment which was made to resemble utopia. The actual effort that it took to transform Fiji into something that was sustainable was actually a community that was run quite democratically. In fact there are about one thousand, one hundred and fifty people from different tribes from about thirty five different countries.
The actual aim of this was to give these vitual community a physical purpose. A plan was drawn to build a village on an island and at the same time , it was built online as well.
This island which spans across two hundred acres, is situated in Vorovoro which is off Mali island. In fact this island is leased to the Tribe by a local chief called Tui Mali. This project was built so that every member who stays here , stays for a fee. This fee costs about
three hundred and sixty dollars for one week. About seven hundred and twenty dollars for two weeks and about one thousand and one hundred dollars for three weeks. Although this does not include the airfare between Nadi and Labasa. The island is just a boat ride away from Labasa.
There are many hotels and shacks made for accommodation purposes. The accommodation are in the central meeting house with sleeping lofts. Along with this, there are special sleeper shacks made for almost a negligible fee , which is mostly used for maintenance. A shed with driftwood beds and hammocks outdoor. Although, many people bring their own tents or sometimes , they even just sleep on the beach.
The best part was to manage the island which protects the Yavusa tribe. This happens to be one of their biggest challenges.
Many people from the Yavusa tribe also work on boat the boats as cooks , captains , builders and gardeners.
